Tuesday, January 7, 2014 Love God by Bethany Chroniger
Scripture: Matthew 22:37-38
We can’t do anything if we don’t have God first in our lives. We find this principle throughout the Bible. The Bible tells us to “seek first the kingdom.” What does that look like? Seeking God’s Kingdom means to turn to God first for help, to fill my thoughts with His desires, to try to take on His character, and to serve and obey God in everything. We must choose to put God and Jesus first in every area of our lives.
If we keep God first in our hearts, then what is in our hearts will come out. Have you ever noticed that it’s very easy to talk about things you love or are passionate about? It is a biblical principle found in both Matthew and James.
When we keep God first, we will bear much fruit because apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15).
Reflection:
What competes with God for my attention? What does the overflow of my heart show? Do my everyday conversations and actions reflect that I treasure Christ above all else?
Prayer:
Father, Forgive me for loving other things more than You. Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting (Psalm 139:23-24)! Amen
Pray for our brethren in South America:
Brazil, Chile, Argentina and all other new fields in that region like Suriname.
