A Call to Prayer and Fasting: April 18 and 19

We are praying.  We are seeking out God’s leading, protection, healing, and intervention amidst this unfolding crisis.  Over time though, this faithful prayer time can increasingly feel like a lonely, daunting task from within the four walls of our home.  We do, however, have the unique opportunity on April 18 and 19 to enter into a season of prayer and fasting with other Seventh Day Baptists from around the world.

SDB World Federation President, Luciano Barreto Nogueira de Moura and SDB World Federation Secretary, Andy Samuels have called Seventh Day Baptists around the world to join in prayer, intercession, and fasting on April 18 and April 19.  They are asking that we take any portion or window of that period for fasting, and set aside any available time slot over that weekend for fervent prayer, especially in regard to the worldwide crisis that we are now engaged in.  As they stated in their letter,  “In this difficult time, God requires of us courage, faith and trust in Him. The other important thing is that we have to pray and plead for ourselves and for all those in need.  Let us be the Church that prays and intercedes for this world that suffers anguish and pain.”  The full invitation to the season of prayer and fasting can be found at:  SDB World Federation invitation to prayer and fasting.

For a video update from SDB World Federation President, Luciano Barreto Nogueira de Moura, please see this link:  SDB World Federation video update.  As we are reminded throughout the invitation from the SDB World Federation, let’s embrace Philippians 4:6-7:  ” . . . do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  I invite you to join me in participating in these upcoming days of focused prayer and fasting.  We will be praying and fasting from our own homes, yet together in our earnest intercession.

Grace and peace,

Carl Greene, Executive Director, SDB General Conference of USA and Canada
